social responsibility
The phrase ‘social responsibility’ just about sums up Cornwall Care. It was because Cornwall County Council understood its responsibilities to the people of Cornwall that it wanted to preserve its much loved residential care homes throughout the County. It was their actions which brought Cornwall Care into being in 1996, allowing its former homes to go from strength to strength. We are acutely aware of the growing numbers of older people in the County, and it is our aim to ensure that there are first class services available to meet their needs in the coming decades in a life enhancing way.
The Environment
Cornwall Care is playing its part in the international efforts to reduce climate change and other damage to the environment. Our new home in Launceston, Cedar Grange, utilises a heat recovery system and extra insulation to minimise fuel use and CO2 emissions. All our homes are keen recyclers, and have detailed action plans to minimise their environmental impacts.
Procurement
As a charity we want to make best use of the income we generate. Our procurement strategy focuses on:
• Value for money
• Buying locally wherever possible to promote the local economy
• Increasing our purchasing power by cooperating with others when this is feasible
• Supporting sustainably produced goods
