St. Hilary is a purpose built care home in the seaside town of Bude. The local doctors surgeries, churches, shops and beach are within walking distance of the home. At St. Hilary you will find a warm, friendly and welcoming atmosphere. We have 37 single rooms and large communal areas over four separate suites; Poppy, Primrose, The Laurels and Meadows. Prospective residents are encouraged to bring in some of their personal belongings to help them feel more relaxed in their new home. We have a smoking policy of which everyone is made aware.
We have a guinea pig called Dougal and a rabbit called Harley. They live together in a big enclosure in the internal garden. We also have 2 budgies called Posh and Becks and a cat who has adopted Primrose Wing as his own! We love animals at St. Hilary’s, and often have relatives and visitors bring in their own pets. Most residents find having animals around very comforting and much like being at home.
We are always looking at ways to improve the environment at St. Hilary’s to make it more comfortable and pleasing to our residents. We have recently decorated The Laurels wing with new colours and furniture. We have also improved one of our gardens for Primrose wing to make it more accessible and safe for our residents. Improvements are also planned for the remaining parts of the home and our internal garden. We have created a new reception area so that visitors to the home are met by welcoming staff.
Mealtimes are a very important part of the day. We offer a wide choice of food, and special diets are catered for. Mealtimes are flexible and relaxed. Our chef is very accommodating should anyone have a special request or would like more choice. Meals are made with fresh ingredients and wherever possible produce is sourced locally.
The staff at St. Hilary’s are well trained in caring for older people. A large percentage of the staff have either passed their NVQ award in care or are working towards it. All our permanent staff have completed a specialised dementia course and many have attended other relevant courses and seminars. Cornwall Care value training and it is offered on a regular basis to our team.
Residents are encouraged to pursue a range of activities from arts and crafts to cooking and gardening. We regularly offer trips on our minibus to local areas, but also hold regular events in the home.
We know that the cost of care really concerns people and we want to do a good job. Calculation of fees is done on an individual basis and reviewed regularly.
G.P’s, opticians, dentists and chiropodist attend the home on a regular basis. A hairdresser is available 2-3 days a week as well as a reflexologist. Daily papers and magazines are delivered daily if required. There is also an on site shop in the day club which sells sweets, toiletries, cards etc.
