Working for Cornwall Care: The Great Opportunities
Cornwall Care has a workforce who share a passion and a desire to bring something special to the lives of the people they care for and work with. Working for Cornwall Care is challenging and demands commitment. We know that we sometimes have to go the extra mile but it is worth the effort because our clients tell us it makes a difference to them. Every individual within Cornwall Care has a very real contribution to make and we will support the development and training of our staff to ensure that they meet their full potential. The staff within Cornwall Care are the foundation on which every service and innovation is built, without staff dedication and skill we could not adapt and respond as quickly as we do to meet our client’s needs.
Cadets:
At 16 years old you can join Cornwall Care and commence a career in care, catering or ancillary services. All of these services hold great opportunities for young people and we are committed to supporting school leavers to develop whilst working beside our experienced, competent staff. Cornwall Care work closely with local educational providers to ensure that pathways to qualifications and further education are available. We want to ensure our cadets can confidently traverse the Cornwall Care career pathway.
Care Assistants:
At 18 years and over Cornwall Care offers people the opportunity to care for our very special client groups. There is a need for our carers to meet clear criteria before commencing employment with us. This is essential as the services we offer people require staff who can develop and grow both in capability and confidence. We expect staff to welcome the responsibility that comes with caring for individuals and we will support our staff in their deliverery of complex care.
Care Practitioners:
Care Practitioners are carers who hold the NVQ 3 in Health and Social Care and have chosen to further enhance their role by completing the ‘Certificate of Older Persons Care’ or it’s equivalent. Cornwall Care’s Education and Training Department support the development of Care Practitioners through practice development supervision. All Care Assistants who hold an NVQ 3 in Health and Social Care will be offered support and guidance on following this career path.
Assistant Practitioners (Trainees):
Assistant Practitioners have completed a two year foundation degree in health care. Cornwall Care have supported trainee practitioners through this course and were active partners in the course design and implementation. We encourage our staff to identify an health care professional specialism in either nursing or therapies. The Assistant Practitioner course facilitates the growth of our staff from Care assistant/practitioner to their chosen specialist field of health care delivery. Wherever possible we want our developing staff to stay with us and as our services grow this enables them to do just that.
Registered General Nurses/Registered Mental Nurses:
Registered nurses who work for Cornwall Care have an opportunity to make a real therapeutic difference to people’s lives. Older person's care has advanced enormously in the past five years and registered nurses, within Cornwall Care, are required to support the further development of care, therapeutic interventions and treatments within our ‘My Life’ services. Registered nurses are an intrinsic part of Cornwall Care's practice development resource and there are opportunities for all nurses to support the skill acquisition of all our staff.
We are committed to facilitating staff, which have an ambition to do so, to travel through the Cornwall Care career pathway to access nurse training and return to our employment following training. The experience and shared philosophy of care is core to our values and principles within Cornwall Care and we work hard at retaining this rich resource within the company.
Physiotherapists/Occupational therapists:
Registered physiotherapists and occupational therapist are essential in the promotion of so many of our clients' well being. We have a therapies team that work across all our My Life services. By working in close collaboration multi disciplinary teams, within Cornwall Care, assess and complete care and therapy strategies that enable older people to maintain their independence and prevent crisis from occurring such as falls etc.
The Therapies Team are also actively involved in working with health and social care partners and agencies across Cornwall to enable older people to access intermediate care and reablement programmes.
As part of the Assistant Practitioners' training we are happy to discuss and where possible facilitate the progression of our staff onto registered therapist training programmes where feasible. Again we see this as nurturing the growth of our staff and retaining their dedication and commitment for Cornwall Care for the future.
