Trevern is situated in an ideal location in Falmouth. The local doctors surgeries, library, churches and shops are all in close proximity, as well as the prominent beautiful beaches and famous harbour.
At Trevern we provide person centred and individual care to people with dementia, physical frailties and/or mental disorder.
Care plans reflect the individual person's needs, wishes and choice. All aspects of physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs are identified and projected on the care profile for every day living. We work closely with health and adult social care to achieve the best outcomes for individuals who choose to live at Trevern.
Alternative therapies are also available to achieve well-being through music, art, massage and relaxation. We promote the opportunity for individuals to maintain their links with their family and assist with reminiscence therapy, we will also encourage and seek advocacy to our service users when required.
Support will be offered to sustain any community links that a person may wish to continue. At Trevern you will find a warm, friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
We have 39 bedrooms and the accommodation is provided to people of either sex primarily over the age of 65, although we do have registration for 3 placements for people with dementia between 56 and 65.
Trevern is on two floors with a separate lift in each side of the building giving access to the first floors. Ramps and grab rails are also provided, allowing service users access to all communal areas and their own private space. Doorways into communal areas, service users rooms, bathing and toilet facilities and other spaces which wheelchair users need access, have a clear opening width of 800mm.
Trevern has recently had an extension built, comprising of 16 en-suite bedrooms, 2 lounge / dining areas, bathing facilities and a garden area. This has been designed and built specifically for people with Dementia. Prospective clients are encouraged to bring in some of their personal belongings to help them feel more at home.
We have 3 resident cats called Suzie, Willow and Smudge and in addition families regularly bring in their dogs. We try wherever possible to accommodate pets, but this does depend on what type of pets they are (and how well they behave). Most residents find having animals around very comforting and much like being at home.
We have 2 garden areas at Trevern which are planted out with sensory foliage. These areas are quiet tranquil settings and allow for the clients to enjoy the outside ambience. The patio area in the new wing is secure and has raised borders to encourage client activity.
We offer a choice at all meals and special diets are catered for. Mealtimes are flexible and relaxed. Our chefs are very accommodating should anyone have a special request. We have been trying cuisine from around the world recently and many clients have been surprised at what they have discovered. Families are welcome to stay for meals with their relatives for which we will make a small charge. Meals are made with fresh ingredients and wherever possible produce is sourced locally.
We are very proud of the level of training of the staff at Trevern. Seventy per cent of our permanent care staff have completed their NVQ level 2 and Dementia stage 1 & 2 training. Within Cornwall Care training for the staff is updated on a regular basis. We even won a National Training Award in 2005. Many of our staff have worked at Trevern for a long time and pride themselves on the care they deliver.
Apart from gardening residents are encouraged to pursue a range of recreational activities from craft to painting, cooking, or musical afternoons.
We know that the cost of care really concerns people and we want to do a good job. Calculation of fees is done on an individual basis. Assessments of residents' individual needs are reviewed on a regular basis.
General Practitioners, opticians, dentists and chiropodist attend the home on a regular basis. Cornwall Care also has the privilege of having their own Physiotherapist who visits Trevern every Tuesday afternoon. A hairdresser is available 2 - 3 days per week and daily papers and magazines are delivered daily if required. There is also an on site shop selling sweets, toiletries, cards etc. available as and when required. |
