Education and Training enable us to communicate about your needs and how well we deliver your service. And we are recognised in this department.
Cornwall Care spends about £500,000 every year – 2.5% of our income – on staff training; a substantial commitment to maintaining and developing customer standards.
We run National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs), Health and Safety courses, Manual Handling, Food Hygiene, Customer Service, Leadership, First Aid – the list is long. We have also been involved (with our partners Cornwall College) in the creation of two specialist Foundation Degrees; Healthcare Practice – leading to Assistant Practitioner status and the Foundation Degree in working with older adults. We will soon be delivering all levels of the new Apprenticeship Programme.
Winning a National Training Award recognised the design and implementation of an accredited dementia care course – one of the first in the country. We are also a City and Guilds Approved NVQ centre and we are recognised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants as an Authorised Training Organisation. The verifier for the Skills Force Accolades 2010 said of us:
‘Cornwall Care has succeeded in implementing a whole systems approach to workforce development, evidenced within ‘My Opportunities’ and this has become the cornerstone of all its activity. Building on a firm belief that ‘if people feel cared for, they will care for others’ and investing in its workforce to fulfil their personal and professional development has paid dividends for the organisation.
This is a philosophy that is evident from recruitment and selection through to employment, career development, performance management and recognition of achievements. The innovative use of coaching and mentoring (personally and professionally) as well as incorporating neuro-linguistic programming is particularly forward thinking. Very clear career pathways within the organisation, which map all continued professional development to roles, are very useful for workers who wish to progress.
Cornwall Care has created a supportive learning environment for its entire workforce, and values the people who work with them. Cornwall Care is committed to creating and nurturing a culture that supports a ‘career for life, acknowledging the ‘richness people bring when they are ‘really at work’ and investing time and resources with the ‘whole’ person.
